Coir Project for Utilization of Coconut Coir / Fiber and its Byproducts in
various Rubber and Allied Products
Awarded By National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)
 
  Objectives
  The basic objective of this Project is utilization of Coconut Coir / Fiber and its Byproducts in various rubber and allied products in order to enhance the utilization of coconuts fibers with marketability to enhance the economic returns for farmers.

Rubber Coir pith Composites were prepared
Chemical treatment for the filler is carried out for better filler interaction with the matrix
 
Alkali Treatment
Acrylic Acid treatment
Potassium Permanganate Treatment
Various Synthetic and natural rubbers were used for Composite Preparation
Two students from B.Tech and 2 students from MSc. course were taken part in the coir Project R&D
work for their Academic Project

Industry visit were conducted as part of the Baseline survey along Tamil Nadu and Kerala
Various coir processing industries were visited during Annual Workshop on Rubber Park, Kerala
